Replacement Insulated Conservatory Roof Panels
Polycarbonate roof sheets typically have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
When it’s time to replace the roof panels, owners have several options:
- Replace with similar panels, offering limited thermal improvement.
- Opt for solid insulated conservatory roof panels instead of the old ones.
- Consider a more comprehensive replacement of the entire roof.
Given the growing emphasis on energy conservation and extending the year-round usability of conservatories, options 2 and 3 are gaining popularity.
Transitioning to solid panels not only curbs heat loss but also mitigates solar gain, breaking the cycle of excessively hot summers and chilly winters in conservatories. Additionally, it introduces shading, akin to the relief provided by a parasol on a sunny day.
However, replacing the entire roof can be costly, necessitating a structural assessment of the existing frame and sometimes even modifications to foundations due to the added weight. Moreover, it typically demands specialized installation.
Fortunately, there’s an alternative:
“Drop-in” Replacement Insulated Conservatory Roof Panels
These panels offer a combined thermal insulation and waterproof solution to the perennial issue of temperature fluctuations in conservatories. They are easily installed, directly replacing existing polycarbonate or glass roof panels with insulated waterproof sandwich panels, available in various thicknesses and sizes to seamlessly fit the current structure.
This task is well-suited for most competent DIYers and can often be completed in a single day, with smaller lean-tos taking only half a day.
Sandwich panels, renowned for their structural strength and lightness, have been utilized in marine and aeronautical structures, as well as insulated vehicle bodies and modular buildings for many years.
Manufactured to your specifications by Stadur, one of Europe’s largest sandwich panel makers based in Germany, these insulated conservatory roof panels boast a reputation for innovation and manufacturing products of proven quality and long-term performance.
There’s a choice of colours available to blend seamlessly with surrounding colour schemes. Despite being relatively thin due to the XPS insulation core, these panels are lightweight, exceptionally strong, easy to handle, and thermally efficient.
Depending on the thickness and type of insulation used, replacing polycarbonate with solid insulated panels can reduce heat loss through the roof by between 50 and 70%, while also significantly diminishing solar gain due to direct sunlight.
